Symptom
Samsung cooktop burner not working
The most useful complaint on a cooktop because it splits the diagnosis in half immediately. One dead zone points at that zone. Everything dead at once points at supply or control. And on induction there is a third answer that costs nothing: the pan.

Five ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
Cookware, on induction
Samsung's underlined u. Not magnetic, too small, or off-center.
Induction cooktop repair from $235 -
Burner cap seating or moisture, on gas
Free, and it accounts for a large share of clicking burners.
Range igniter replacement from $165 -
The igniter or spark module
One burner is that igniter. All of them is the module.
Range igniter replacement from $165 -
The element or infinite switch
On radiant tops, one dead zone.
Cooktop element repair from $155 -
Control lock or a wet panel
A touch top that does not respond at all, before anything is opened.

One zone or all of them
The single most useful observation available.

02
On induction, swap pans and swap zones
Two tests, one minute, and they separate cookware from appliance.

03
On gas, reseat and dry the cap
Square on its seat and completely dry.

Check the control lock and wipe the panel dry
A wet touch panel behaves like a locked one.

Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem before anybody opens anything, which is why it is worth photographing before it clears.

About Samsung cooktop burner not working
Two free tests
On induction, try the same pan on a different zone and a different pan on the same zone — that separates cookware from appliance in under a minute. On gas, lift the burner cap off and put it back squarely, and make sure it is dry: a cap slightly off its seat, or a burner washed and put back damp, will click without lighting.
What it usually means, by the kind of Samsung appliance
Samsung sells one appliance in several forms, and the same behavior points at different things on each of them. A built-in side-by-side and an integrated column are not the same service situation, and a dual-fuel range and an induction range fail in different halves.
- Induction — The underlined u means pan detection. Magnetic cookware, centered, sized to the ring.
- Electric radiant — Element, infinite switch or the touch board. One zone is the element or its switch.
- Gas — Igniter, cap seating and moisture. One burner clicking is that burner; all of them is the module or the supply.
Induction is fussier and it says so
An induction zone heats the pan itself through a magnetic field, so the pan is part of the appliance. Steel and cast iron work; aluminum and copper do not unless they have a magnetic base; a pan much smaller than the ring may not be seen at all. Samsung's underlined u is the cooktop telling you this rather than reporting a failure, and the element switches itself off after a minute if nothing changes.
The under-counter fan
Induction cooktops have a cooling fan under the counter that very few owners know about. If the cabinet below has been filled with stored pans, or the ventilation slot has been closed in during a remodel, the electronics run hot and start shutting zones down. It is worth looking before anything is opened.

Questions about Samsung cooktop burner not working
The zone works for a minute and then switches off.
On induction that is either pan detection or an overheating power board. Both are worth checking before parts: the first is cookware, the second is ventilation under the counter.
All four gas burners click and none lights.
That points at the spark module or the gas supply rather than at any one burner. Check that other gas appliances in the house work.
