Confirm it really is not heating
A cup of water for one minute at full power. If it is noticeably warmer, the machine is heating and the complaint is something else — uneven cooking, a turntable that has stopped, or a power level set low. If it is unchanged, that is the high-voltage side and it is not something to open.
What it usually means, by the kind of Samsung appliance
Samsung sells one appliance in several forms, and the same behavior points at different things on each of them. A built-in side-by-side and an integrated column are not the same service situation, and a dual-fuel range and an induction range fail in different halves.
- Countertop — A standalone appliance. The repair-or-replace line is low and we will tell you on the phone.
- Over-the-range — Also the cooktop's ventilation and light, screwed to the wall and cabinet. Replacing means an installation as well as an appliance.
- Microwave combination wall oven — The microwave half cannot be replaced separately at all, so repair is effectively the only route.
The one safety line we will not soften
A microwave's high-voltage capacitor stores enough energy to kill after the appliance has been unplugged, and it does not discharge on its own quickly. There is no version of this repair that is a reasonable home project, and that is not us protecting a call-out fee — it is the reason microwave repair is done by people with the tools to discharge it safely.
Where it sits decides the answer
The same failure has three prices. A countertop unit out of warranty is often not worth it, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than after a visit. An over-the-range unit usually is, because replacing it means a two-person job, a cabinet cut-out that may not match, and re-doing the vent. The microwave half of a combination wall oven cannot be replaced on its own at all.
