# Samsung dryer not heating

### Check the obvious supply case first

On an electric dryer, a machine that tumbles perfectly and produces no heat at all is very often half its supply — one leg of a 240-volt circuit gone at a breaker or a connection. The motor runs on one leg and the element needs both, which is exactly this symptom. It is an electrician's check, and it is worth doing before an element is bought.

### What it usually means, by the kind of Samsung appliance

Samsung sells one appliance in several forms, and the same behavior points at different things on each of them. A built-in side-by-side and an integrated column are not the same service situation, and a dual-fuel range and an induction range fail in different halves.

- **Vented electric** — Element, thermostats, thermal cut-out and the relay. Half of a 240-volt supply missing gives a dryer that tumbles cold.
- **Vented gas** — Samsung's HC2. Igniter glows, valve opens, flame sensor confirms — and any one of the three stops it.
- **Heat pump** — No element at all. A machine that tumbles cold here is the refrigeration circuit and it is a different conversation.

### Why the duct is on a heating page

The thermal cut-out in a dryer exists to stop it overheating when air cannot move. When it does its job, the dryer tumbles and does not heat — which looks exactly like a failed element. ### The gas sequence

Check the duct anyway

### Can I use it while I wait?

On an electric machine that tumbles cold, yes, though it will not dry. On a gas machine, or if there is any smell of gas, no — call and stop using it.
