# Samsung smart diagnosis and firmware service

### The visit where the repair is sometimes software

Samsung publishes conditions that an update resolves with no part at all — C-F0 on three named induction range models, and the 9C1 a stacked washer reports for its dryer through a multi-control kit. A Family Hub refrigerator will also hand over a list of every code it has recorded, through Fridge Manager, and no other make in this fleet gives an owner that. Checking all of it takes minutes and occasionally ends the whole matter.

What this involves

Family Hub self check read and written down

SmartThings connection, updates and the fixes Samsung publishes for them

The cheapest visit on the site, and sometimes the only one needed

Read the appliance's own record

On a Family Hub: Apps, then Fridge Manager, then Fridge Settings, then Self Check. It lists current and past codes, and no other make in this fleet offers that.

Check for a published software fix

Two of the conditions Samsung documents are resolved by an update and need no parts at all. Checking takes minutes.

Connect what needs connecting

Some of Samsung's published fixes only reach the appliance through SmartThings, so the connection is part of the repair rather than a convenience.

Write down what the appliance said

The self-check list, the codes and the firmware version, left with you. If it does come back, the next visit starts from evidence rather than from scratch.

### Do I need SmartThings for my appliance to work?

No. Everything the appliance does mechanically works without it. What you lose without it is the update path and the self-check, and on the models Samsung has published a software fix for, that is the difference between a free repair and a paid one.

### Will you tell me the price before you start?

Yes, in writing, after the diagnostic and before anything is opened. Every figure on this site is a starting point; the number you agree to is the one you pay.
