### The one repair we will talk you out of when it is right to

Recovery, leak repair, evacuation and recharge, with the compressor as the upper case. It is the most expensive work on this site, it is never diagnosed by elimination, and it is the repair most often blamed for problems that turn out to be a fan, a gasket or a mode. On a cabinet past a certain age the honest conversation is about the appliance rather than the repair, and we would rather have it early.

Refrigerant recovered rather than vented. It is the law and it is also how the system gets weighed accurately afterwards.

Find the leak, do not top it up

A system that has been recharged without the leak being repaired is a system that will be empty again, and the second visit costs what the first one did.

Evacuate, weigh in, and prove it

Vacuum held and checked, the charge weighed in to the plate figure, then temperatures and pressures measured through a full pull-down.

### Is a refrigerant leak dangerous?

In household quantities, no. What it is, is a repair that has to be found and sealed rather than topped up — a system that has been recharged without the leak being fixed is a system that will be empty again.
