### Three mechanisms, and the first one is free

A convertible compartment has a setting, a damper and a sensor, where a fixed one has only the last two. The setting is checked first and it is genuinely the answer often enough to be worth asking about on the phone — these get changed by accident more than anything else in a kitchen. After that it is the damper and the airflow reaching the compartment.

Test the damper

It is a small motorized flap and it is either moving or it is not. That is a measurement rather than an opinion.

Check the air path to the compartment

A convertible compartment is fed from elsewhere in the cabinet, so a duct blocked by a packed shelf produces this with nothing broken.

Run it to the setting you actually want

And leave it holding that temperature, measured, rather than set and hoped for.
