# Samsung evaporator fan repair

### Two very different repairs behind one code

Samsung publishes 21E for the freezer fan and 22E for the fresh-food fan, and in their own explanation the usual cause of both is a fan that has frozen up rather than a motor that has died. So the first job is to find out which. A fan that turns freely by hand and still reports is electrical. One sitting in a block of ice is a defrost problem and a door problem wearing a fan code, and replacing the motor would fix nothing.

What this involves

21E and 22E diagnosed properly rather than answered with a motor

The reason the ice got there is part of the job

Gaskets and door closure checked at the same visit

Find out whether the fan is stuck or dead

A fan that turns freely by hand and reports anyway is electrical; one frozen into a block of ice is a defrost and a door problem wearing a fan code.

Clear the ice and see what is left

A fan that turns freely and quietly once the ice is off it was never the failure, and replacing the motor would have changed nothing.

Measure the motor and its supply

A fan that still will not run with a clear path is measured — the motor, the connector and the control that switches it — rather than swapped on suspicion.

Check both gaskets while the panel is off

The ice came from somewhere. This is the visit where that gets settled, because it is the half that decides whether the repair lasts.

### Is the noise related?

Very often, yes. A blade ticking against ice is the same problem earlier, and it is the best moment to deal with it — the ice is still small and the motor has not been fighting it for months.

### Will you tell me the price before you start?

Yes, in writing, after the diagnostic and before anything is opened. Every figure on this site is a starting point; the number you agree to is the one you pay.
