Inside the fresh food compartment on a refrigerator, usually high on the left or right wall. On the edge of the door on a dishwasher. On the frame inside the door on a wall oven or a range. Behind a filter on a hood. Inside the door frame on a microwave, a washer or a dryer. Behind the grille at the bottom on an undercounter cabinet, and inside the door frame on a wine cellar. Take a photograph rather than writing it down. The full number includes the letters after the digits — those decide which parts fit, and they are the part people misread most often. ## Or start from the symptom If you do not have the number to hand, start from what the unit is doing. These were built to be repaired, and a legacy cabinet in good condition with sound cabinetry is worth keeping. Where it stops being worth it is when the work approaches what the unit is worth, or when a second major failure is already visible — and we will say so on the visit rather than after. Can you still get parts for the older units? — For most of what fails, yes — OEM parts are available on order, though legacy parts can take a few days to source. That is why we confirm a part is the problem before ordering it rather than after. Why do you not list the specifications for each model? — Because we cannot verify them. Capacity, dimensions and production years published second-hand are wrong often enough that a table of them would be a liability, and inventing one would break our own rule about publishing only what we can stand behind. What we do publish is what the number means for the repair. The number on my unit has letters after it. Does that matter? — Yes, for parts. The digits identify the family; the letters identify the configuration, and two units sharing the same digits can take different components. Photograph the whole plate and we will read it from there. Do you work on the current range as well? — Yes, the whole current range. These pages exist because a number is what people search by; everything else this maker sells is covered on the appliance pages. ## What a Samsung model number actually tells you ### The first letters name the appliance A Samsung model number opens with a family code and it is the fastest way to tell what a machine is before anybody looks at it. **RF** is a French door refrigerator, **RS** a side-by-side, **RT** a top-freezer, **RB** a bottom-freezer and **RZ** the convertible upright freezer. **WF** and **WA** are front-load and top-load washers, **WD** a washer-dryer combination. **DVE** and **DVG** are electric and gas dryers. **NX** and **NE** are ranges, **NV** and **NQ** wall ovens, **NZ** cooktops, **NK** hoods, **ME** and **MG** microwaves, and **DW** dishwashers. Read the first two or three characters and you already know which of this site’s eleven appliances you are on. ### What comes after the letters, and what the slash means The digits that follow are capacity and series rather than a date, and the trailing letters are the finish — SS for stainless, MT for matte black steel, WW for white. The suffix after the slash, usually */AA*, is the region code. The plate on your appliance may show it and this site does not: NX60A6511SS/AA and NX60A6511SS are the same range, and searching for either finds the same page. ### Why the list is not one page per finish Samsung’s own US catalog carries around three hundred products across the appliances on this site, and a large share of that number is the same machine in another color. Bespoke makes it more so: the door panels come off and change, and a Bespoke refrigerator in white glass and the same model in stainless are one appliance and one repair. Publishing every finish would be publishing one machine several times and having our own pages compete with each other, so the list here is one page per model family, chosen to cover every appliance and every current line — Bespoke, Family Hub, Flex Duo, FlexWash, StormWash, WaterWall. If your exact finish code is not on the list, the page for your family is still the right page. ### Where the number is, and why we ask for it first Refrigerators carry it inside, on the left wall of the fresh-food compartment. Washers and dryers have it inside the door opening or on the back panel. Ranges and wall ovens print it on the frame behind the door. Dishwashers put it on the edge of the door where you can only see it with the door open. It matters more on this make than on most, because four of the codes Samsung publishes mean two different things depending on the model — *dC*, *3E* and *BE2* on washers, and *1E* on dishwashers — and the model number is what settles which reading applies. ## Send the plate, and what it is doing.
