Why one number would be useless A Samsung washer can need a five-minute fix or a repair that costs more than the machine is worth, and both arrive described the same way: "it stopped working." So this page is organized by what the machine is doing, because that is the thing an owner actually knows. Every figure below is a starting point. No final price is published anywhere on this site; the exact number is agreed in writing after the diagnostic and before anything is opened. ## It will not drain — from $175 There is water in the drum and the cycle has stopped. Samsung reports it as 5C or nd, or as a single blinking cycle light on machines with no display. Three things get checked before the pump is quoted, and all three are free. The **debris filter** behind the lower front panel — designed to be opened by the owner, has its own little drain hose for the purpose, and in our experience has never been opened. What comes out of it is coins, hair clips, underwires and lint, and it is frequently the whole repair. The **drain hose** — kinked behind the machine, or inserted the wrong depth into the standpipe. Too far in and it siphons; not far enough and it comes out under pressure. The **detergent**. A drum full of foam behaves like a drum that cannot drain, and Samsung's SUd condition covers exactly that. If all three are clear and it still holds water, it is the pump, and $175 is where that starts. ## It will not spin — from $185 The single most common washer complaint, and the one most likely not to be a repair at all. The ten-minute test settles it: three or four similar towels, spread evenly round the drum, spin only. If the machine spins that, it is healthy and the problem is loading. A single bath sheet or a duvet will stop any front loader. If it will not spin an even load, then the order is levelling first — free, and a machine that rocks will never spin a heavy load cleanly — then the door lock, then the suspension rods and shock absorbers, then the Mems sensor that watches the drum. The suspension is where most of these end, and $185 is where that band starts. It is also the repair that announces itself over months rather than overnight, so a machine that has been getting gradually worse is likely to be here. ## It is leaking — from $155 Priced on finding it rather than on the part, because the part at the end is very often a hose. When in the cycle the water appears is the diagnosis. On fill, it is a hose, a valve or the dispenser. During the wash, it is the door boot or the tub. On spin, it is the pump seal or a hose under pressure. There is a Samsung-specific point worth knowing: the machine's own leak sensing sits low in the cabinet and will report **1E** or **LC** with nothing visible on your floor. That is not a false alarm, it is an early one — and early is the version where this repair is a hose rather than a cabinet. ## The door will not lock, or the machine says dC — from $155 A front loader will not run with any doubt about the door. Two Samsung specifics change the arithmetic here, and both are worth knowing before anybody quotes for a lock assembly. Samsung says itself that **dC is an unbalanced load rather than a door error on some models**. Same two characters, two meanings, and the model number settles it — so a door repair on those machines would fix nothing. And on a **FlexWash**, a **1dC4** on the upper unit can be nothing more than a missing rubber button beside the latch. Fitting the button is the entire repair, and it is documented by the manufacturer. ## FlexWash and all-in-one combos — from $195 Above the plain washer figures, and not because the parts cost more. A FlexWash is two washers in one cabinet, each with its own door, drain path and control path. An all-in-one combo washes and then dries in the same drum, which means the drying side inherits every water problem the washing side has. The extra cost is diagnostic time: establishing which half is reporting before anything is opened. Samsung's codes carry that in the leading digit, and reading it correctly is what stops us taking the wrong unit apart. ## The one we are honest about The **drum bearing**. On many front loaders the bearing is not a separate part — it is pressed into an outer tub assembly that is sold complete, which turns a bearing failure into a large job. It announces itself: a rumble on spin that gets worse over months, then a grinding, then a drum that moves visibly when you push it. If you catch it at the rumble stage there is time to decide calmly. When it arrives, we give you the number and the honest arithmetic. On a machine of a certain age the answer is sometimes to replace it, and we would rather say that than take the work. ## Why these numbers sit lower than our other sites Volume, and it is the biggest single factor. Samsung is the highest-volume appliance make in this fleet.
