That is not a criticism of the machine: a hood is a motor, a blower wheel, a set of filters, a light and a control, and there is very little in it to report. It also means diagnosis here is done by hand rather than read off a display, and the pages on this site reflect that. ### Ducted and recirculating are different appliances A ducted hood puts the air outside and lives or dies by the duct. A recirculating hood filters it and puts it back into the room, needs a charcoal filter that ducted models do not have, and will never move as much air. A great many complaints about weak extraction are actually a recirculating installation working exactly as designed, and that is worth knowing before anyone is paid to look at it. ### Pairing, and why it is now part of the repair Samsung’s hoods can connect to a Samsung range or cooktop so the fan starts when cooking does. Pairing is what lets the hood start when the cooktop below it does, and it can be lost by a power interruption, a firmware update on either appliance, or a change to the network. It is worth trying the pairing procedure again before assuming hardware, because it fixes most of them. ### It will not turn on at all. Start above the appliance: hoods are frequently on a switched circuit shared with the kitchen lighting, and they are frequently connected by an installer to something that has since been changed. After supply it is the control panel, then the blower. A hood is a simple machine and there is not much in it, which is why the repairs are usually worth doing. ### It runs but it is not pulling. Filters, duct, damper — in that order and usually the first. Baffle and mesh filters saturate, and a saturated filter kills airflow long before it looks dirty enough to matter. If yours recirculates rather than ducts outside, there is a charcoal filter as well, and its life is measured in months. ### Are there error codes for hoods? None. Samsung publishes no code table for range hoods, and rather than borrow one from another appliance we say so.
