# Samsung freezers

### Three places Samsung freezes, and they are not the same appliance

The freezer compartment of a French door or bottom-freezer cabinet shares its cooling with the fresh-food side, which is why a warm fridge and a cold freezer is such a useful thing to report. A FlexZone or 4-Door Flex compartment is a convertible: it has a setting that decides whether it is a refrigerator or a freezer, and that setting is a common and completely free fix. The convertible upright — Samsung’s standalone, RZ11M7074SA on their own support hub — is the only one of the three that is a freezer and nothing else.

### Why this page carries the diagnosis instead of a code list

Samsung publishes no freezer codes. Rather than pad this page with codes borrowed from another appliance or another maker, everything a Samsung freezer can tell you is on the symptom pages: not freezing, freezing too hard, frost that comes back, ice in the wrong place, a door that will not stay shut. If your cabinet does show a code on its main display, it is the refrigerator’s table and that is where to look it up.

### The freezer is fine and the fridge is warm. Or the other way round. What is that?

It is the most diagnostic thing a two-compartment cabinet can tell you, so it is worth saying it exactly that way when you call. Cold below and warm above usually points at the airflow between the two — a fan, a damper, or a frosted evaporator that has stopped passing air — because in most of these cabinets one cooling system serves both. Everything warm at once is a different family of problem and often a simpler one.

### There is frost building up inside. Is that normal?

A little is. A layer that comes back after you clear it is not, and it is one of the more useful complaints because it narrows things quickly: frost in the freezer that keeps returning is usually the defrost circuit or a door that is not sealing, and frost specifically around the ice bucket is usually the bucket's own seal. Samsung has its own article on frost in the freezer, refrigerator and ice bucket, and it starts in the same place we do — with what is letting warm air in.

### Does Samsung publish freezer error codes?

No, and we would rather say so than invent a table. There is no freezer code list in Samsung's US support base. The one freezer-related code the maker does publish, 21E, is on the refrigerator table and means the electronics are not seeing the freezer fan turn. Everything else about a freezer on this badge is diagnosed from what it is doing, which is what our symptom pages are for.

### My FlexZone drawer will not hold freezing temperature.

A convertible compartment has more to go wrong than a fixed one — it has its own damper, its own sensor and its own setting — and the first thing worth checking is the setting itself, because these get changed by accident more often than anything else in the kitchen. After that it is the same list as any compartment: airflow, seal, frost. Tell us it is a FlexZone when you call; it changes what we bring.
