A gas dryer burns for the same purpose and adds an igniter, a valve and a flame sensor to the list of things that can stop. A ventless heat-pump dryer does neither: it recirculates, condenses the moisture out, and drains or collects it — which is why it is slower, why it is cooler, and why its failures look nothing like the other two. Samsung sells all three, and telling us which you have on the phone is worth more than any other single detail. ### What the dryer publishes A code table grouped the way the washer’s is — voltage, jammed button, door, heat, communication, moisture sensing — and a separate blinking-light guide for the models with no digital display. Samsung also publishes an icon guide, and it says plainly that the icons vary by model, which is the honest position and the one we take on those pages too. ### The duct is part of the appliance On vented machines it is the single most common cause of a dryer that has stopped drying well, and it is not inside the dryer, which is why it survives so many service calls. We check it as part of the diagnostic rather than as an extra. On a vented dryer this is airflow far more often than heat — a duct that is long, crushed, or full of lint will dry nothing however hot the element gets, and it is also the version of this problem that starts fires. On a heat-pump dryer it is usually the condenser or its filter, which needs cleaning far more often than people expect. Both are checkable in the first few minutes of a visit. ### What is 9C1, and why did my washer tell me about it? It is a voltage error, and the second half of your question is a real Samsung quirk that they document themselves: if the dryer is stacked with a washer using a multi-control kit, the washer can report a 9C1 for the dryer when you touch the controls within five seconds of switching the washer on. There is a software update for it through SmartThings. Otherwise 9C1 means the supply — its own circuit, no extension cord, and on an electric dryer a power cord fitted correctly. ### Only some lights are blinking and there is no code. Same arrangement as the washers: models without a digital display blink the temperature and time lights instead, and Samsung publishes the map. Extra Low and 20 min together is a frequency error, Low alone is a jammed button, Medium is a communication error, High or 40 min is the door. Note which ones before you switch it off. ### Is a heat pump dryer worth repairing? Usually yes, and the calculation is different from a vented dryer because the machine costs more to begin with. What we will not do is guess at it: the diagnostic tells you whether it is the condenser, a sensor, the compressor or simply a filter nobody knew was there, and those four answers have very different prices.
